I've been deeply embedded in the philanthropy sector since 2000.
I thrive when I'm supporting other people who want to make positive changes happen, as this means I'm expanding the diversity and breadth of impact I'm making.
Early in my career I led a small team, under the vision of a Goodwill Ambassador to Nelson Mandela Children's Fund at Whatever It Takes, and generated $100million+ royalties to date for a wide range of charities. Since then, I've established a multifaceted portfolio of work which includes small and large charities, three grantmaking foundations, individual philanthropists, entrepreneurs with topics ranging from disability to climate-change, and interviewed people about their life stories. I worked in the asset management industry on fund management and then full-time as Senior Grants Manager for a client’s Foundation.
In 2013, I completed my dissertation for my MSc, which was an investigation into the relationship between HNWIs, their wealth advisers and philanthropy. It was very clear that there was no relationship at all. The wealth management industry's response to my question was "where is my financial compensation for having those conversations?"
However, the $124 trillion intergenerational wealth transfer has begun, accompanied by a significant shift in the mindset of the next generation of wealth holders. People want to align their assets with their values. Money and purpose are no longer mutually exclusive terms. They're interdependent.
Since 2023, I've been building informal relationships with clients who want this service, and advisers who don't know how to respond. I am now working with them to bring that purpose into practice.
Wealth can do more than grow. It can solve problems, support communities and shape a better future.
